President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to “rescue” Nigeria and fulfill the promises made to citizens, emphasizing inclusive development and security as key pillars of national progress.
Speaking on Monday at the State House, Abuja, while hosting an interfaith breaking of the fast for Muslims observing Ramadan and Christians marking Lent, Tinubu called on state governors to intensify efforts at reaching the most vulnerable citizens.
“In this sacred season for two major faiths, we are reminded that beyond politics and policy, we are first a people of conscience,” the president said. “I commended the governors for their efforts, but I challenged them to do more — to reach the young man who feels forgotten, lift the woman carrying her family on tired shoulders, and bring hope to communities where it sometimes flickers.”
The president stressed that development should transcend religion, compassion should ignore tribe, and opportunity should not discriminate by status. “I am determined to rescue this country. What I promised Nigerians will not be postponed,” he added.
On security, Tinubu described it as the foundation of economic prosperity. “Without security, farms cannot flourish, businesses cannot grow, and families cannot sleep in peace. That is why we are committed to establishing state police — not as a political move, but as a practical reform to empower states while strengthening our national framework,” he stated.
The president further called on all Nigerians to embrace necessary reforms and work together for a safer, stronger nation.
Reacting to the president’s address, Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State, pledged continued cooperation between state governments and the federal administration. “We appreciate the new reform policies, the support, interventions, and the innovative tax reforms introduced to strengthen state operations,” Uzodimma said.
