FCT Polls: APC Says Victory in AMAC Signals 2027 Win, Vows to Challenge Gwagwalada Result

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has described the party’s victory in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections as a pointer to success in the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda said the outcome of the polls, particularly the win in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), had validated earlier remarks by leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that whoever clinches AMAC would be well positioned for victory in 2027.
A former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, had reportedly stated during campaigns that winning AMAC, regarded as the most cosmopolitan council in the FCT, would determine the party likely to triumph in the next general elections.
The APC secured chairmanship seats in five of the six Area Councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Gwagwalada.
Speaking at the Kwara Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, Yilwatda said the council polls served as a “dress rehearsal” for 2027, noting that the party’s grassroots campaign strategy paid off.
“We worked tirelessly for this victory, engaging residents from door to door and market to market. While others focused on social media, we were on the ground with the people,” he said.
He added that the APC’s performance was a reflection of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which he described as people-oriented and targeted at vulnerable groups.
The APC chairman charged the newly elected council chairmen to deliver on campaign promises and ensure effective implementation of the administration’s programmes at the grassroots.
In his remarks, Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the APC Campaign Council for the FCT polls, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, commended President Tinubu and the party leadership for what he termed a well-coordinated outing.
He disclosed that the party was reviewing the results from Gwagwalada Area Council and may challenge the outcome through legal means if necessary.
“We will carefully examine the electoral documents to determine whether there are grounds to reclaim the seat,” he said.
Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, attributed the party’s success to visible projects and reforms carried out in the FCT under the current administration.
Kalu noted that the achievements recorded in the territory over the past two years strengthened the APC’s campaign and resonated with voters.
He maintained that the electorate’s support reflected confidence in the government’s policies and their implementation at the grassroots level.
