FCT Polls: I’ll Back Only Pro-Tinubu Candidates, Regardless Of Party — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will support only candidates loyal to President Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming FCT Area Council elections, irrespective of their political party affiliations.

Wike made the remark in Abuja during the 60th birthday celebration of Senator Sandy Onor, according to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

He said the February 21 council polls in the Federal Capital Territory would be determined by candidates’ loyalty to the President.

“We have the FCT Area Council election coming up on February 21 and I have a duty to support any candidate that supports President Tinubu to win,” Wike said.

“It is also my duty to ensure that any candidate that is not supporting Tinubu does not win in the election, and I owe no apology for my stand.”

Speaking on the celebrant, Wike described Onor as a dependable ally and trusted friend, noting that he had remained reliable even in difficult times. He pledged continued solidarity with him and his family.

Chairman of the planning committee and former FCT senator, Philip Aduda, described the event as a thanksgiving for Onor’s life and achievements in academics and politics.

Also speaking, former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, who represented former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu, praised Onor as an icon and a prepared leader.

Former Attorney General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi, described the senator as courageous and intellectually grounded, commending his respect for the Nigerian Constitution.

A book in honour of Onor was unveiled at the ceremony, with a N50 million support donation announced by associates and friends.

In his remarks, Onor said turning 60 had reinforced his belief in excellence, character and hard work, adding that achievements mean little without divine grace.
