Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has faulted the Senate’s approval of a system that combines electronic and manual transmission of election results, warning that such an approach could undermine transparency and create avoidable confusion in Nigeria’s electoral process.

Speaking on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with former military Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, in Minna, Niger State, Atiku said he does not support the adoption of a dual transmission framework.

According to him, blending both methods would weaken public confidence rather than strengthen the credibility of elections.

“I don’t support the mixture of electronic and manual transmission of election results passed by the Senate,” Atiku said. “It’s going to cause more confusion, and I think there’s a need for all opposition parties to come together to pursue this issue.”

The former presidential candidate stressed that electoral reforms must be clear, consistent and technology-driven to inspire trust among voters and stakeholders.

Atiku also dismissed calls for zoning in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, arguing that merit and broad-based acceptability should take precedence over regional considerations.
