Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio and members of the National Assembly over the approval of provisions allowing manual transmission of election results, describing the move as a setback to Nigeria’s electoral reform efforts.

Adeyanju expressed his displeasure following the conclusion of the Occupy National Assembly protest, warning that permitting manual transmission could erode transparency and public trust in the electoral process.

In a post shared on his X handle, the activist alleged that the amendment undermines the progress achieved through recent electoral reforms and opens the door for manipulation of results.

He argued that if manual transmission remains a valid option under the Electoral Act, it could reverse key safeguards introduced to strengthen election credibility.

According to him, the decision by federal lawmakers signals a dangerous shift away from reforms designed to ensure accountability and accuracy in the conduct of elections.

Adeyanju further accused the National Assembly leadership of disregarding public concerns, insisting that the development could negatively affect the integrity of future elections if not reviewed.
