The Osun State Chapter of the Accord Party has raised the alarm over what it described as desperate attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to harvest residents’ personal information, particularly National Identification Numbers (NIN), under fraudulent pretences.
In a statement on Monday, the State Chairman of Accord, Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, urged Osun residents to remain vigilant and resist any solicitation of personal data by APC operatives. According to him, the ruling party, having failed in its political machinations, is now employing deceptive tactics to exploit unsuspecting citizens.
Pastor Akande emphasized that no legitimate political programme or party activity requires citizens to hand over sensitive information. He urged residents to treat any such request as a red flag and report it to the appropriate authorities.
Commending the people of Osun for their resilience, the Accord Chairman noted that previous strategies by the APC, including the deliberate withholding of local government funds, were aimed at starving communities into submission. He accused the party of now attempting to lure citizens with trivial handouts after years of inflicted hardship.
“The APC wrongly assumed that prolonged punishment would break the integrity and resolve of Osun people, forcing them to abandon their principled stance,” Pastor Akande said. “There is nothing the APC has not done to weaken the people’s will and undermine support for the people-oriented administration of His Excellency, Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. It is therefore gratifying that the people have remained resilient, resolute, and unyielding.”
The Accord Party reiterated its commitment to issue-based politics, citizens’ rights, and the protection of personal data. It called on security agencies and relevant institutions to intervene decisively to safeguard residents from identity-related crimes and political exploitation.
