The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been accused of spreading fear and false allegations over a proposed protest by workers and pensioners, a spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke said on Sunday.
Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the Governor’s spokesperson, told Patriotic Insights News “The Osun APC is scared of the evil consequences of its anti-human actions, especially on local government issues. Its many spurious allegations about a proposed protest are nothing but attempts to create panic. The Adeleke administration is not in the business of sponsoring protests and agitations. The people know their rights and they will defend them against impunity and lawlessness.”
Rasheed said the APC’s warnings over unrest were part of an undemocratic effort to seize control of Osun State by the backdoor after realising the people’s strong resolve to reject the party at the polls in August. He noted that Governor Adeleke and his administration are committed to the rule of law and due process, warning that the public should not fall for attempts to exploit genuine grievances for political gains.
“The Governor has maintained restraint in the face of provocation and continues to implore citizens to be careful not to fall into the dangerous game of the APC to plunge our State into needless crisis,” Rasheed added.
He further urged security agencies to monitor any attempt by the APC to use the genuine grievances of pensioners to create instability, stating that the people of Osun would decisively use their votes to punish what he described as “illegal arrogance, reprehensible impunity, and daylight robbery” by the party in handling local government finances.
