Shettima Storms Kwara Over Massacre, Tinubu Orders Military Crackdown, Deploys Battalion

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday arrived in Kwara State following the deadly terrorist attack that left over 100 people feared killed in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area, as the Federal Government intensified its response to the tragedy.

Shettima’s visit is aimed at conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the affected communities and coordinating federal support for victims, survivors and local authorities.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, said the Vice President conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s firm assurance that perpetrators of the attack would be hunted down and brought to justice.

According to the statement, the Federal Government remains committed to restoring security in the area and preventing further attacks on vulnerable rural communities.

Earlier, President Tinubu received a detailed security briefing at the State House from Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, over the incident and the wider security situation in the state.

Following the briefing, the President approved the immediate deployment of an Army battalion to the troubled axis and authorized the launch of a special military operation codenamed Operation Savannah Shield, targeted at flushing out terrorist elements and stabilizing the region.

Recall that the coordinated attacks on Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities occurred on the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, when heavily armed assailants invaded the settlements.

Residents said the attackers had earlier circulated messages claiming they intended to “preach” and pressure villagers to renounce loyalty to the Nigerian state in favour of extremist doctrines — demands the communities reportedly rejected before the assault.
