Shettima Leads FG Delegation to Kwara, Vows Restitution After Kaiama Massacre

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday led a Federal Government delegation to Kwara State to console residents of Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, following the recent terrorist attacks that claimed several lives.

Speaking during the visit, Shettima conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolences and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the affected areas. He confirmed that decisive measures had been taken, including the deployment of a battalion of the Nigerian Army to Kaiama as part of efforts to curb insecurity in the state.

“We are here at the behest of President Tinubu to commiserate with the people of Kaiama and Kwara State over the tragic incident in Woro and Nuku. This attack is indeed shocking, but we assure you that all hands are on deck to restore peace and tranquillity,” Shettima said.

He further disclosed that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had been directed to coordinate with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials and support to the affected communities.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, lauded the Federal Government’s swift response, noting that security personnel had already been mobilised on the ground. The Governor also confirmed that “Operation Savannah Shield is in motion” and urged Nigerians to continue praying for improved security nationwide.

Borno State Governor and Chairman of the North East Governors Forum, Babagana Umara Zulum, also expressed condolences to the victims’ families and called for sustained efforts to prevent such attacks in the future.

Local leaders, including the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Abdullahi Abubakar Danladi, and the Emir of Kaiama, HRH Alhaji Mu’azu Shehu Omar, commended President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for their prompt intervention and the deployment of security operatives.

The visit underscores the Federal Government’s resolve to tackle insecurity and support communities affected by terrorism across the nation.
