Osun ADC New Media Urges IGP to Reopen Amotekun Office Over Kwara Security Threat

On Saturday, the Osun State New Media Directorate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to immediately unseal the Amotekun Corps office in the state, citing urgent security concerns following the recent massacre in neighbouring Kwara State.

According to Akande Abimbola, Publicity Secretary of Osun ADC New Media, “The security situation in Kwara State is a serious wake-up call. Osun shares borders and socio-economic ties with affected areas. This is not the time to limit or cripple our local security structures. Amotekun must operate fully to safeguard lives and property.”

The group expressed deep alarm over the tragic events in Kwara, warning that Osun, given its proximity, could be vulnerable to spillover if proactive security measures are not implemented.

Osun ADC New Media stressed that the continued closure of the Amotekun office undermines the state’s community-based security structure, particularly at a time when close collaboration between federal and state security agencies is critical.

The party added that Amotekun was created to complement existing security agencies by providing intelligence, conducting rural patrols, and ensuring early threat detection. They argued that reopening the office would improve coordination and readiness among all security formations in Osun.

The group also called on security authorities to prioritize public safety over administrative or jurisdictional disagreements, stressing that residents deserve a robust security presence amid rising regional tensions.

“We respectfully call on the IGP to act swiftly by unsealing the Amotekun office and enabling full operational capacity. Prevention is always better than reaction,” the statement concluded.
