Kwara Massacre: Natasha Condemns Killings, Urges Urgent Action to Restore Security

The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has strongly condemned the recent attacks in Kwara State, describing the violence as “unacceptable and deeply troubling.”

The federal lawmaker raised the alarm over the rising wave of insecurity, warning that it poses a serious threat to national peace and stability.

Her statement follows a deadly assault on Tuesday night in Woro and Nuku communities, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara, where over 100 residents were initially feared dead after gunmen stormed the towns. Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, later confirmed 75 fatalities.

In a related incident, bandits also attacked Abande community in Mbaikyor Ward of Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving several dead.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who personally issued a condolence message in Abuja on Thursday, expressed profound sympathy to the families of the victims, describing the attacks as “senseless and tragic.”

She stressed that unchecked insecurity could undermine national cohesion and called on governments at all levels to take urgent and decisive steps to stem the tide.

“The persistent killings of innocent Nigerians are unacceptable and deeply troubling,” the senator said. “Protecting lives and ensuring justice must be non-negotiable. The safety of our citizens must always be the highest priority of government.”

She urged federal and state authorities to move beyond rhetoric and implement coordinated, intelligence-driven strategies to tackle insecurity, warning that impunity only emboldens criminals.

“Those responsible for these attacks must be identified and brought to justice without delay. Political leaders and security agencies have both constitutional and moral responsibilities to act decisively to prevent further bloodshed,” Akpoti-Uduaghan added.

She concluded by emphasizing the need for a more effective, people-centred security framework to ensure that communities can live without fear.
