The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has accused the Oyo State government of destroying federal railway assets in Ibadan, the state capital, in an incident valued at millions of Naira.
The NRC alleged that the demolition occurred on Monday, February 2, 2026, along its legally protected railway corridor in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area. The corporation claimed that Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Amanda, Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government Council, led the action with a group reportedly comprising hoodlums, personnel in Nigerian Army uniforms, and operatives of Amotekun.
According to NRC, the council chairman claimed he acted under instructions from the state governor. Assets destroyed or removed included rails, sleepers, signal poles, billboards, and fences belonging to NRC tenants along the Mile One-Ten axis.
Attempts by the NRC Police Command to intervene were reportedly resisted, forcing officers to withdraw from the scene. The corporation described the incident as a “serious violation of federal railway property” and confirmed that it is documenting the matter comprehensively.
Callistus Unyimadu, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, said the corporation would take all necessary security, administrative, and legal measures to protect its assets and prevent future encroachments. The Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reaffirmed the NRC’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the face of such provocations.
The NRC’s accusation adds to growing tensions over the protection of federal infrastructure in states across the country.
