A Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Sokoto State Government has submitted its report, alleging that over N117 billion was misappropriated during the eight-year administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

Presenting the report to Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the Government House on Tuesday, Chairman of the panel, Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga (rtd), said the commission uncovered multiple cases of alleged financial misconduct, due process violations and abuse of office.

He said the commission was mandated to investigate the activities of the immediate past administration using official records, contract documents and sworn testimonies from relevant officials and stakeholders.

According to him, the inquiry revealed significant financial infractions linked to weak internal controls, disregard for procurement laws and unauthorized approvals.

“The commission carefully examined documents, financial records and contract files, and heard testimonies from ministries, departments, agencies and other key actors connected to the transactions under review,” he said.

Justice Pindiga noted that the report contains detailed findings and recommendations aimed at strengthening accountability and safeguarding public funds going forward.

He added that the document is arranged in five parts, covering the background of the probe, evidence gathered, findings, recommendations and concluding observations for government action.

The panel chairman commended members of the commission for their commitment and impartiality, stating that the assignment was carried out in the public interest.

He also thanked individuals and institutions that cooperated with the investigation, describing their contributions as crucial to the outcome of the exercise.

Receiving the report, Governor Aliyu expressed appreciation to the commission, describing the task as sensitive and significant.

The governor maintained that the inquiry was not a witch-hunt but a lawful process intended to establish facts and promote transparency in governance.

He disclosed that the state government would set up a committee to review the report and produce a white paper, assuring that fairness and due process would guide all subsequent actions.
