President Bola Tinubu stumbled and fell on Tuesday while being received by Turkish President Recep Erdogan at a formal welcome ceremony in Ankara, the Turkish capital.
The incident occurred as the Nigerian leader walked alongside President Erdogan. Tinubu appeared to miss a step but was swiftly assisted by aides, regaining his balance shortly after.
President Tinubu arrived at the Turkish presidential palace in a black limousine. Following his arrival, the military band performed the national anthems of both Nigeria and Turkey. During the ceremony, President Erdogan briefly adjusted Tinubu’s posture to properly face the band.
The Nigerian President left Abuja on Monday for the state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the discussions would cover cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, aviation, finance, communication, trade, and investment.
