Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture and Tourism, has warned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) risks losing the 2027 presidential election if it fields Peter Obi as its candidate.

Musawa made this remark during an interview on the latest edition of the Mic One podcast with Seun Okinbaloye, stressing that while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is a formidable opponent, he is not a match for President Bola Tinubu.

“I don’t think Atiku is a match for Tinubu, but he is certainly a formidable contender. As much as I admire him as a patriot, he is no match for Tinubu,” Musawa said.

She further cautioned that nominating Obi would be “the fastest way the opposition could lose the election,” adding that fielding Atiku under the ADC platform would signal the party’s disregard for the principle of Southern power rotation.

“And if it’s Atiku on that ticket, it means the ADC does not recognize that the South should maintain power,” she added.

The minister’s comments come amid growing discussions within opposition parties ahead of the 2027 polls, as political stakeholders strategize over candidate selections and regional power dynamics.
