Nasarawa ADC Suspends State Chairman Amid Alleged Anti-Party Activities

Keffi, Nasarawa State – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has suspended its Chairman, Godwin Williams, over alleged anti-party activities.

The party’s Transitional Leadership Team (TLT) took the decision following a petition accusing Williams of actions that undermined the unity and progress of the ADC in the state.

The suspension, announced at a meeting on Wednesday in Keffi and presided over by party leader John Abdul, is for 14 days pending investigation and the outcome of a Disciplinary Committee set up by the TLT.

A statement by the party’s spokesman, Idris Ojoko, also confirmed the appointment of former Secretary Paul Ajeh as Acting State Chairman, while Umar Babayaro will serve as Acting Secretary.

According to Ojoko, the allegations against Williams include:

Non-recognition of the party’s National Working Committee under Senator David Mark.

Refusal to integrate coalition members into the ADC party structure in Nasarawa.

Reporting some party leaders to the state INEC, DSS, and Nigeria Police, claiming they were impostors.

Constitution of parallel party organs at various levels.

Interference with the establishment of party offices at state, local government, and ward levels.

Obstruction of the ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise.

The Disciplinary Committee is chaired by Barrister Hassan Yakubu, with members Amina Zanwa, Mamman Sunday, and Yunus Sidi. Gaza Auta will serve as Secretary.

Reacting to the suspension, Williams dismissed the action as illegitimate, stating, “I’m the one who should suspend them, not the other way around.” He questioned the legitimacy of the coalition members who initiated the suspension, claiming they joined the party only five or six months ago.

Williams also accused the group of attempting to sabotage the ADC and support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. He insisted he remains the state chairman until the end of his tenure, asserting that those who suspended him have no standing in the party.
