APC e-membership to hit 9 million in two weeks — Basiru

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said its ongoing nationwide digital revalidation exercise will boost the party’s verified membership to between eight and nine million within the next two weeks.

The National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made this known on Monday in Abuja after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) with state coordinators overseeing the exercise.

Basiru said the meeting was jointly presided over by the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Chairman of the APC State Chairmen Forum, Cornelius Ojelabi.

According to him, data-driven organisation remains central to the APC’s operational efficiency and effective mobilisation, noting that the digital revalidation is designed to strengthen internal coordination and consultation within the party.

Despite the fact that some states are yet to commence full-scale registration, Basiru said the exercise has recorded remarkable progress nationwide.

“Just one week into the exercise, we already have over two million Nigerians digitally verified with their names and voter identification numbers,” he said.

“By next week, by the grace of God, we expect the figure to rise to between eight and nine million members.”

Basiru explained that the digital registration captures key demographic details such as age, gender and occupation, adding that data integrity is ensured through linkage to members’ phone numbers and voter identification numbers.

Addressing concerns about registration in conflict-prone or hard-to-reach areas, he said the party had made provision for manual registration, which would be uploaded once internet access is available.

“No APC member will be excluded because of insecurity or poor network. We have deployed multiple registration personnel across wards nationwide to ensure inclusiveness,” he assured.

He also dismissed allegations of exclusion arising from internal party factions, stressing that the registration exercise is open to all members in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

“No faction is being favoured or disallowed. Registration is open to everyone who meets the requirements. Contestation will come later,” Basiru said.

The APC scribe declined to give a state-by-state breakdown of registered members, describing such data as internal party information, while reaffirming that the party remains a pan-Nigerian platform with strong national spread.

Basiru commended party leaders and stakeholders at the state level for their commitment to the exercise, adding that identified challenges are already being addressed.

He recalled that former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, had described the e-registration as timely and strategic, while former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, said the exercise would directly link members to empowerment programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
