Electricity supply from the national grid to Nigerians fell to 3,810 megawatts (MW) as of January 11, 2026, according to data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The power, distributed to the country’s eleven electricity distribution companies (DisCos), represents a drop of 520MW compared to the 4,330MW allocated on January 5, 2026.

The decline comes as the national grid continues to recover from its latest collapse on December 29, 2025, which left millions of Nigerians in darkness.

In its recent quarterly report, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) revealed that 20 companies applied for approval to exit the national grid and operate captive power generation in the third quarter of 2025.

Analysts warn that persistent grid instability and the shift of power firms toward independent generation could further strain electricity supply to consumers.
