Tambuwal: Nigeria in Peril, Urgent Action Needed for Salvation

Former Sokoto State Governor and current senator, Aminu Tambuwal, has warned that Nigeria is in a state of “peril” and called for a collective effort to rescue the nation from its political, social, and economic challenges.

Tambuwal made the remarks on Saturday in Abuja during a colloquium organised to mark his 60th birthday, stressing that the event was not about celebrating him but an opportunity to chart a pathway for national progress.

He lamented the current state of governance, noting that those who laid the foundation of Nigeria’s democracy would be disappointed with the country’s trajectory.

“It is for all of us to acknowledge that there is something fundamentally wrong with how the country is being governed today,” Tambuwal said. “This is not about me or political partisanship. It is about good governance and finding a way forward for Nigeria.”

The senator emphasised that the search for “salvation” requires the involvement of all Nigerians. “Whether we like it or not, where we are today is unfortunate. We must remain in this country and ensure that we do the right thing to produce the right leadership,” he said.

Tambuwal expressed his readiness to work with every Nigerian committed to promoting good democratic governance.

The event drew a host of political leaders and dignitaries, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi; former Senate President David Mark; Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro; Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah; and former House of Representatives Speakers Patricia Etteh and Yakubu Dogara.

Also in attendance were former governors Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Aminu Masari (Katsina), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Gbenga Daniel (Ogun), Emeka Ihedioha (Imo), and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun).
