Ex-DSS Boss Lawal Daura Declares 2027 Governorship Ambition in Katsina

Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Katsina State governorship election, citing concerns over the current administration’s handling of security and governance.
In an interview with DCL Hausa on Tuesday, Daura said he had concluded consultations on the political platform he intends to adopt, which he will unveil soon.
He criticised the incumbent government, questioning the rationale for seeking re-election after what he described as underperformance. Using a metaphor, he said leaders should step aside when they can no longer manage responsibilities effectively.
“It is like placing a load on someone and adjusting it. If the person complains that it is too heavy, you remove it to avoid damaging fragile items. For the current administration, we can say thank you for the efforts, but it is time to step aside,” Daura said.
Reflecting on his entry into politics, Daura admitted that contesting was not part of his original plan. “I never imagined coming out to contest. I have always worked behind the scenes,” he said.
Daura’s declaration comes amid growing political activity in the state as parties position themselves for the 2027 polls.
