The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to take decisive and urgent steps to address the worsening hardship faced by Nigerians, citing insecurity, inflation and corruption as major concerns.

In a New Year message issued on Thursday, the caucus, led by the Minority Leader, Mr Kingsley Chinda, said the socio-economic conditions endured by citizens in 2025 were alarming and required stronger government intervention in 2026.

The lawmakers urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently tackle the rising wave of insecurity across the country, including insurgency in the North-East, banditry and kidnapping in the North-West and North-Central, as well as violent crime and communal clashes in other regions.

According to the caucus, the persistent security challenges have disrupted farming activities, displaced communities and weakened local economies, further worsening food insecurity and poverty.

They also expressed concern over the high unemployment rate, particularly among young Nigerians, noting that corruption continues to undermine public institutions and reduce the impact of government spending on infrastructure and social services.

The caucus added that spiralling inflation and the high cost of living have pushed more Nigerians into poverty, describing the state of the nation in 2025 as deeply troubling.

“The situation of our country, particularly in 2025, was worrisome and fearful. The rising trend of insecurity remains disturbing, while spiralling inflation, hunger and poverty continue to define the daily realities of many Nigerians,” the statement said.

The lawmakers challenged the Federal Government to intensify efforts in 2026 to ease the suffering of citizens and restore confidence in governance.
