Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, declaring that the country is destined for greatness despite its current challenges.

In his New Year message to Nigerians on Thursday, Saraki said the nation’s vast population of over 200 million people—largely youthful, energetic and creative—remains Nigeria’s greatest asset.

According to him, the abundance of human and natural resources across agriculture, solid minerals, oil and gas, tourism, and a favourable climate places Nigeria in a strong position to achieve sustainable growth.

He urged Nigerians to resist tendencies that could undermine national unity, stressing that the difficulties confronting the country are temporary and surmountable.

Saraki described 2026 as a year that should be approached with renewed discipline, tolerance and respect for diverse opinions, warning against divisions along ethnic, religious or political lines.

“There is no doubt that Nigeria is blessed with some of the most determined, hardworking, resilient and brilliant citizens anywhere in the world,” he said.

The former Kwara State governor added that he sees 2026 as a potential turning point for the country, calling on citizens to maintain a positive attitude toward nation-building.

He also offered prayers for the nation’s security personnel, asking God to protect them and grant them victory over criminal elements threatening peace and stability.
