IPOB lawyer Ejiofor raises alarm over escalating threats to life

Counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has raised alarm over what he described as increasing and persistent threats to his life and that of his family.
Ejiofor, a human rights lawyer, made the disclosure in a petition dated December 29, 2025, in which he said it had become necessary to formally alert the public and the international community to an alleged coordinated campaign of intimidation and hostile actions against him.
The lawyer, a native of Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, said the decision to go public was prompted by the worsening nature of the threats, despite earlier appeals and public concern.
According to him, an initial alarm he raised over the threats attracted widespread reactions, including calls and messages from concerned Nigerians across different segments of society. However, he lamented that rather than subside, the threats had intensified, compelling him to place a full account of events before the world.
“Recall that I raised a public alarm concerning manifest and credible threats to my life and the safety of my family. That alarm elicited calls, messages, and expressions of deep concern from well-meaning individuals across all strata of society,” he said.
“Regrettably, rather than abate, these threats have since persisted and intensified, compelling me to place this factual and historical account before the world,” Ejiofor added.
He also disclosed that he is currently at his ancestral home in Oraifite, alongside members of his family, for the Christmas and New Year festivities, a situation he said further heightened his security concerns.
Ejiofor did not disclose the source of the threats but called for urgent attention to ensure the safety of his family and himself.
