Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday cautioned politicians he described as “emergency” supporters of President Bola Tinubu to respect existing political agreements in Rivers State.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Emohua Local Government Area, Wike highlighted the crucial role of the Ikwerre people in the 2023 presidential election, noting that their support would be pivotal again in 2027.

He said: “In 2023, when it was uncertain whether the President would emerge, all of us from Ikwerre soil understood that politics involves risk, and we backed him. The votes from Ikwerre were instrumental in his victory in Rivers State, and we cannot allow anyone to take us for granted.

“Some people were silent when it was difficult, and now that the opposition is weakened, they are coming to shout ‘on your mandate.’ We have always stood by the mandate when it mattered most. In Rivers, an agreement is an agreement. Those who are now suddenly ‘emergency supporters’ cannot alter that reality.”

Wike reiterated his position that the South must complete its eight-year tenure in the presidency regardless of party affiliation, saying that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would give the President the same support when needed.

The minister warned that political vigilance in Rivers State remained crucial, and anyone attempting to exploit the situation would not succeed.
