Debris from U.S. Anti-ISIS Airstrikes Fell in Offa — FG

The Federal Government has confirmed that debris from United States precision airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) targets landed in parts of Offa, Kwara State, and Jabo in Sokoto State during a joint counter-terrorism operation.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, explaining that the strikes were carried out with President Bola Tinubu’s approval between 12:12 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on December 26, 2025.

According to the minister, the operation targeted ISIS enclaves in the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State. He said debris from the strikes fell in Jabo, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, and near a hotel premises in Offa.

Idris assured Nigerians that no civilian casualties were recorded in the affected areas, adding that security agencies promptly secured the locations.

He said the operation was conducted in close coordination with the United States, deploying 16 GPS-guided precision munitions from MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial platforms launched from maritime positions in the Gulf of Guinea.

The minister noted that intelligence reports confirmed the targeted locations were being used by foreign ISIS fighters infiltrating Nigeria from the Sahel, in collaboration with local affiliates, to plan major terrorist attacks.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the strikes on his Truth Social account, saying the U.S. military had targeted terrorists responsible for attacks on Christian communities in northwest Nigeria. He warned that continued violence against civilians would attract decisive action.
