Popular Afrobeats artiste, Davido, has formally announced his entry into Nigerian politics, aligning himself with the Accord Party (AP).

In a post on his X page on Tuesday, the singer, born David Adeleke, stated his plans to travel to Osun State on Wednesday to officially collect his party membership card.

“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @Imole House Osogbo tomorrow… see you soon accordingly. Cc @AAdeleke_01,” Davido wrote.

The development follows closely on the heels of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party. Governor Adeleke has since been confirmed as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 elections in the state.

Davido rose to prominence in 2012 with the release of Dami Duro, a single from his debut album, Omo Baba Olowo. Over the years, he has cemented his reputation as one of Africa’s leading musicians and a key figure in the Afrobeats industry. His discography includes notable albums such as A Good Time (2019), A Better Time (2020), Timeless (2023), and his latest release, 5ive, which dropped in April 2025.

The singer is also the founder of DMW, a record label launched in 2016, which has nurtured several rising music talents in Nigeria and beyond.

Davido’s move into politics marks a significant shift in his career, signaling a growing trend of entertainers participating in Nigeria’s political space.
