Court Upholds Ngige’s EFCC Bail, Orders Director-Level Civil Servant as Surety

A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Gwarinpa, Abuja, on Thursday affirmed the administrative bail earlier granted to former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Delivering a ruling on Ngige’s bail application, Justice Maryam Hassan held that the former minister may continue to enjoy the EFCC bail, but with stricter conditions.

The court ordered Ngige to produce a surety who must be a serving director in the Federal Civil Service and an owner of landed property. Justice Hassan further directed that the surety deposit the title documents of the property, alongside his travel documents, with the court pending the retrieval of Ngige’s international passport.

Ngige’s application was argued by his lead counsel, Patrick Ikwueto (SAN).

Prior to the court’s ruling, the EFCC had granted Ngige bail on self-recognition, directing him to submit his travel documents to the commission and provide one surety.

More details to follow.
