Ilorin Broadcast Saga: Kwara Govt Arraigns Ex-Lawmaker, Two Others Over Alleged Inciting Radio Content

The Kwara State Government has arraigned three individuals, including a former lawmaker, Hon. Iliasu Ibrahim, before the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin over alleged broadcasts said to be capable of disturbing public peace.

Also charged alongside Ibrahim are Mallam Shola Muse and Adesemowo Suleiman. The trio were docked by the Kwara State Ministry of Justice following allegations that they made and uploaded audio and video content aired on SBS 96.9 FM Radio.

According to the charge sheet dated December 17, 2025, the defendants are accused of engaging in broadcasts deemed insulting, derogatory and inciting against prominent personalities in the state.

The prosecution anchored the charges on Sections 97, 114 and 399 of the Kwara State Penal Code (CAP P4, 2006), which criminalise acts relating to unlawful assembly, incitement and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

Court sources said the alleged broadcasts were circulated via radio and other digital platforms, prompting complaints and subsequent investigations by relevant authorities.

At the time of filing this report, no plea had been taken, as the matter was adjourned to a later date to enable the court address preliminary issues.

The Kwara State Ministry of Justice maintained that the charges were instituted in the interest of public order and in line with extant laws governing responsible broadcasting and public communication.

The defendants are, however, presumed innocent until proven guilty, as the case is expected to proceed to full hearing in the coming weeks.

More details are expected to emerge as proceedings continue.
