Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has declared that President Bola Tinubu will not secure re-election in 2027, insisting that the prevailing hardship across the country will work against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Monday, the former Senate Minority Leader said President Tinubu did not genuinely win the 2023 presidential election, arguing that Nigerians are now more alert and prepared to challenge the ruling party at the polls.
“Everybody can lose an election, and you will see that President Tinubu will lose in 2027. I know how Nigerians are feeling outside,” Abaribe said.
“He was declared the winner in 2023, and we accepted him as president. But this time, we will meet him on the field. It will not be an announcement at 3 a.m. before people wake up. Nigerians are ready, and the masses are even more ready,” he added.
Abaribe also faulted the wave of defections to the APC, alleging that many politicians were lured by promises of automatic tickets rather than shared ideology.
According to him, defecting governors and politicians cannot openly campaign for Tinubu in their constituencies due to public anger over economic hardship and insecurity.
“They cannot go to their homes or to places like Ariaria Market and tell the people to vote for Tinubu. They will be chased away. People are suffering, and the suffering is monumental. The economy has collapsed, and insecurity remains unresolved,” he said.
The Abia lawmaker maintained that he would never defect to the APC unless there was no opposition party left in the country, adding that the ruling party was merely absorbing internal contradictions that would eventually weaken it.
“If your opponent is making mistakes, you don’t correct him; you leave him. APC is absorbing all the problems it will later face,” Abaribe said.
While acknowledging that the government is taking tough economic decisions, he argued that Nigerians are increasingly conscious of the need for change.
“Yes, the pain is there, but Nigerians are more aware now and ready to act,” he noted.
Abaribe further expressed confidence in the opposition coalition, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the APC as a “giant with feet of clay.”
“At the election, you target the clay feet, and everything collapses. We are united, prepared, and ready to challenge the APC in 2027,” he said.
