NLC Says Replacing Service Chiefs Alone Won’t End Insecurity

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government to go beyond reshuffling security chiefs, stressing that Nigerians expect tangible results in the fight against insecurity.

President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, made the remarks on Friday in an interview with Arise Television monitored by Patriotic Insights News. He warned that simply changing top security personnel does not guarantee a reduction in crimes such as kidnapping and banditry.

“The Federal Government changing service chiefs and rejigging the security apparatus doesn’t mean we are seeing results. We need practical solutions,” Ajaero said.

He noted that the NLC prefers measurable outcomes over “theoretical” changes in leadership. “We want to see results. Removal of a minister or the Chief of Army Staff doesn’t stop the incidents of kidnapping and banditry,” he added.

Ajaero also expressed frustration over the government’s lack of response to the NLC’s earlier communications. “We wrote to Mr President since June on issues ranging from taxation to strikes in tertiary institutions and the education sector. To date, there has been no acknowledgment,” he said.

The NLC has announced a nationwide protest scheduled for December 17 to draw attention to the worsening insecurity across the country.
