Bauchi Govt Debunks Rumoured Bala Mohammed Defection to PRP

The Bauchi State Government has dismissed widespread reports suggesting that Governor Bala Mohammed is plotting to defect to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

The clarification followed a remark credited to the PRP Publicity Secretary in the state, Hon. Wada Abdullahi, who claimed the governor would not be welcomed into the party even if such rumours were true. Abdullahi alleged that Governor Mohammed’s performance fell below the standards the party upholds.

He said the PRP had taken note of reports indicating that the governor might be seeking “refuge” in the party amid what he called the “alleged disintegration” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level.

But in a swift response on Wednesday, Governor Mohammed’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, faulted the claims, describing them as “false, unfounded and a mere product of imagination.”

Gidado stated firmly that the governor has never considered leaving the PDP, adding that no direct or indirect moves have been made toward joining the PRP. According to him, Governor Mohammed remains a central figure in ongoing efforts to stabilise the PDP and strengthen its internal democracy.

He noted that the governor had consistently defeated the PRP in previous electoral contests, a development he said underscores the strength of the governor’s political base.

The administration listed achievements in empowerment, infrastructure, tourism development, rural transformation and urban renewal as evidence of the governor’s steady leadership. It also faulted the PRP for failing to acknowledge ongoing reforms in traditional institutions and governance systems across the state.

Gidado urged residents to be vigilant and not allow themselves to be misled by “habitual critics” seeking political relevance through misinformation.

He added that while Governor Mohammed reserves the constitutional right to freely associate and determine his political future, such decisions would never be driven by falsehood or malicious propaganda.
