2027 Presidency: Atiku Visits Jonathan in Abuja Amid ADC Consultations
Former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday paid a courtesy call on ex‑President Goodluck Jonathan at his Abuja residence, shortly after Jonathan returned from an official trip to Guinea‑Bissau.
The visit comes as Atiku, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and formally obtained his membership card, continues consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over concerns that the party had strayed from its founding principles, is widely expected to contest as the presidential candidate of the ADC. A section of the North had earlier rallied support for Jonathan, arguing it was the South’s turn to produce the next president.
Speaking on the meeting, Atiku took to his verified Facebook page to say: “It was a pleasure catching up with former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday evening, following his recent return from Guinea‑Bissau.”
Political observers believe the visit signals Atiku’s efforts to consolidate support across the South‑South and South‑East ahead of the party’s primaries.
