Oyintiloye Urges FG to Salvage Ibadan-Gbongan Road Before Festive Rush
Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, former lawmaker and senior All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Osun State, has called on the federal government to urgently rehabilitate the Ibadan-Gbongan road, warning that continued neglect could lead to a total collapse.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye described the road, which links Oyo, Osun, and Ondo states, as a “death trap,” urging immediate intervention ahead of the festive season, when traffic is expected to increase.
“The deplorable state of the road has rendered one lane of the dual carriageway almost unusable. Crater-sized potholes have made the route nearly impassable despite its importance to the south-west corridor,” he said.
He appealed to the Federal Ministry of Works to prioritise repairs, stressing that the deteriorating road network across the country is causing untold hardship for commuters, economic losses, and exposing travellers to accidents and insecurity.
“Despite substantial annual budgets for road construction and maintenance, the quality and quantity of our road infrastructure remain inadequate,” Oyintiloye added.
The APC stalwart called for swift action to prevent a possible spike in accidents and traffic congestion during the peak travel period.
