A member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Oluwole Oke, on Tuesday described the death of renowned historian, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, as a “painful and monumental loss” to Osun State and Nigeria’s academic community.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Oke, who represents Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, said the late scholar distinguished himself through decades of impactful teaching, research and public service.
According to him, Oyeweso’s passing has created a void that will be difficult to fill, especially within the intellectual circles where he was widely respected for his scholarship and mentorship.
He also extended heartfelt condolences to the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the bereaved family, praying God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
The statement, signed by the Public and Media Communication Unit, Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency Office, quoted Oke as saying:
“Prof. Siyan Oyeweso lived a life dedicated to knowledge, mentorship and service to humanity. His passing is deeply saddening, but his contributions will forever remain in our hearts.”
He described the deceased as a patriot whose intellectual legacy would continue to inspire younger generations.
Oke urged the family and the Osun APC to take solace in the impactful life the late professor lived.
