Adeleke’s Exit from PDP Triggers Jubilation Among Support Groups

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday has continued to stir reactions across Osun State, with a key socio-political group, Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD), praising the move as “courageous and strategically necessary.”

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Tuesday, the group said the deep-rooted factional crisis within the PDP had made the party unsafe for any governorship aspirant, warning that the internal wrangling exposed the governor to the risk of double nomination and other what it called “electoral ambushes.”

According to ODD, residents of the state had been unsettled by the prolonged crisis and had mounted sustained pressure on Adeleke to dump the party in order to avoid what it described as a “Zamfara-style setback.”

“We are happy the Governor has taken the right decision. Those plotting double nomination or a Zamfara-style agenda against the Governor have failed,” the group said.

The organisation described Adeleke as a widely accepted leader whose political strength transcends party lines, adding that Osun people were prepared to follow him to any new platform he chooses.

“We urge him to immediately declare for a new party and comply with all electoral requirements. Osun people are ready to embrace whatever platform he picks,” the statement read.

ODD also reiterated its commitment to sustained mobilisation for Adeleke’s second-term bid, insisting that his re-election is “a done deal before God and man.” The group further argued that Adeleke’s achievements in governance and service delivery have boosted his political advantage ahead of 2026.

The statement was signed by Adeyefa Adeyemo, Director of Operations and Public Affairs of ODD.
