Adeleke to Officially Join New Party Before December 13, Confirms Osun Commissioner

The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has confirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke will formally join a new political party before December 13, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Adeleke had earlier submitted his resignation letter to PDP executives in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025, a move that came amid prolonged internal crises within the party.

Speaking on a political programme on Rave FM, Osogbo, Alimi said, “The governor of Osun State and the Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party. This decision had been pending for some time.”

The commissioner urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the governor, adding: “We appreciate the people for their support. As a Yoruba adage says, the people are the governor’s shield. Seeing them rally behind him brings great joy.”

Alimi said the decision to quit PDP was largely influenced by the party’s internal wrangling at the national level and the approaching governorship election, coupled with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination deadline.

“The governor’s resignation is not just about defection. With our election coming up in August and the INEC nomination window closing on December 15, the decision became necessary,” he stated.

On speculations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Adeleke’s resignation, Alimi described such claims as false. “They thought they could manipulate the situation to their advantage. But Adeleke remains ahead at every step,” he said.

Regarding the new party, Alimi said discussions were ongoing and full clarity would be provided on or before December 13, in line with the nomination deadlines.

He reiterated that Adeleke’s resignation could have been avoided if PDP were not fractured at the national level. “Had the party been united, there would have been no reason for the governor to resign,” he added.
