Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has insisted that the party’s governorship candidate in Osun State will not be chosen through a consensus arrangement.
Omisore made the declaration on Monday after submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the APC governorship primary, scheduled to hold on 13 December 2025.
The senator, a former deputy governor of Osun State from the Osun East Senatorial District, said the presence of nine aspirants in the race makes a consensus arrangement impossible under the Electoral Act.
He said, “As of today, we have nine aspirants. Consensus is not on the table. Whoever emerges through the set process becomes the party’s candidate.”
Omisore also dismissed claims that the APC leadership has endorsed a particular aspirant from Osun West — referring to the incumbent Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebanji — noting that every zone in the state has previously produced a governor. He described such speculations as “social media stunts.”
“The older the wine, the richer the taste. Experience cannot be bought. Every attempt I have made came with a new vision. This time, Osun is lucky to have someone with depth ready to rewrite its history,” Omisore added.
Another aspirant and former deputy governor, Benedict Alabi, said his decision to contest was motivated not by personal ambition but by a commitment to the progress and welfare of Osun residents. He emphasized that public office should be pursued with a heart that listens, understands, and responds to the people’s needs.
