Members of the Sheu Mandate Group (SMG), a political structure loyal to former Secretary to the Osun State Government, Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti, have thrown their full weight behind his withdrawal from the Omoluabi Progressives, the group led by ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued after the group’s strategic meeting held in Osogbo and signed by the State Coordinator, Barrister Gbenga Awosode.
Awosode said the decision became necessary in view of the group’s “unwavering trust in Adeoti’s leadership capacity, political experience and principled approach to teamwork.”
The meeting, attended by grassroots politicians and progressive stakeholders from all local government areas of the state, also directed members to cease participation in all Omoluabi Progressives activities with immediate effect.
The SMG described as “shocking and unacceptable” what it termed the “ambush” against Adeoti during the Omoluabi Progressives’ election held in Lagos last Friday, which produced former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Najeem Salaam, as leader of the group.
The group alleged that the process “fell short of democratic standards,” insisting that only fifteen “hand-picked loyalists” were allowed to act as the electoral college.
Despite their displeasure, members urged Adeoti to remain calm and prayerful as he considers his next political destination, assuring that they would stand by him wherever he chooses to align.
“We are fully prepared to follow our principal to any political platform that aligns with progressive ideals and respects internal democracy,” Awosode stated.
