Osun State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Sunday Bisi, has hinted that Governor Ademola Adeleke may not seek re-election on the platform of the party in 2026.
Bisi, who addressed journalists on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo, said the deepening crisis within the PDP’s national leadership had created uncertainty around the conduct of congresses and primaries ahead of the governorship election.
He explained that although Governor Adeleke was the only aspirant who purchased, submitted, and was duly screened for the ticket, the crisis has stalled the party’s pre-primary processes.
According to him, the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers—who are statutory players in organising congresses and forwarding candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—crippled scheduled activities, including the ward and local government congresses expected to produce delegates for the primaries.
“The issues that halted these congresses are presently before various courts across the country,” Bisi said.
He added that the PDP governorship primary billed for Tuesday, December 2, could no longer hold, stressing that the situation had placed Governor Adeleke in a difficult position.
“Because of the internal crisis rocking the national leadership of our party, the information at my disposal is that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the PDP nomination for the 2026 governorship election unless a resolution acceptable to INEC is reached within the required timeline,” Bisi declared.
