The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent security measures as “bold and historic steps” to stabilise the nation. The party urged Nigerians to remain calm and united as the country navigates what it called temporary challenges.
In a statement on Friday, APC Lagos spokesman Seye Oladejo accused the opposition of exaggerating security concerns for political gain. He said the president’s administration has made significant strides in improving national security and tackling criminal networks.
“While the opposition spreads fear, President Tinubu delivers capacity,” Oladejo said. “He has shown resolve where others fled, courage where others buckled, and leadership where others sought shortcuts.”
The party highlighted the president’s declaration of a State of Emergency on Security and approval for the recruitment of 20,000 additional police officers, bringing total new intakes under his administration to 50,000 — the largest expansion of security personnel in recent times.
According to Oladejo, recent security breakthroughs, including the rescue of victims and dismantling of hostile networks, demonstrate the administration’s determination to safeguard all parts of the country. He also expressed concern over opposition figures who, he alleged, attempt to exploit isolated incidents for political purposes and seek foreign intervention by portraying Nigeria as unstable.
On the economic front, the APC argued that current hardships reflect short-term adjustments from reforms aimed at tackling entrenched corruption in sectors such as fuel subsidies and foreign exchange management. The party said these reforms are beginning to yield results, citing growth in agriculture, increased government revenue, renewed investor confidence, and revival in industry.
Oladejo concluded by reaffirming the party’s confidence in the president’s leadership, describing him as a hands-on leader committed to securing Nigeria’s future. “We stand with him. We stand with Nigeria,” he said.
