Tinubu Sets Up Committee to Drive New National Tax Policy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the formation of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) to steer the execution of his administration’s sweeping tax reforms.

The committee, chaired by seasoned financial expert Mr. Joseph Tegbe, is expected to coordinate the rollout of the new tax framework in line with the administration’s economic agenda. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, will provide supervisory oversight.

According to the Presidency, the NTPIC will engage in wide-ranging consultations with stakeholders across the public and private sectors to ensure an inclusive and credible implementation process.

Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), brings more than 35 years of cross-sector experience, including his previous role as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.

Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, Mrs Sanyade Okoli, will serve as the Committee’s Secretary, while other members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and several professionals drawn from key sectors.

President Tinubu said the committee’s work is pivotal to the administration’s economic transformation drive, noting that effective implementation of the new Tax Acts is essential to strengthening public finance management and sustaining investor confidence.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to “a fair, transparent and technology-driven tax system that supports economic growth while protecting the interests of citizens and businesses.”

The NTPIC is tasked with conducting nationwide engagements with private sector players, professional bodies, and subnational governments, as well as coordinating public awareness campaigns to aid the smooth rollout of the new tax laws.
