The 24 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, have been rescued following a coordinated security operation.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
The girls were kidnapped on November 17, 2025, when armed bandits attacked the school, killing a staff member and injuring a security guard.
Following the incident, President Tinubu directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi to oversee the security operations and ensure the safe return of the girls.
The rescue operation involved a combined team of police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilante groups, who combed the forests and surrounding areas to track down the abductors. The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, also ordered troops to leave no stone unturned in the search.
Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris had earlier reassured parents that all efforts were being made to rescue their children. The Federal Government condemned the attack and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice.
