Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of residents, assuring that proactive steps are being taken to prevent any infiltration of bandits into the state.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor said heightened security measures have been implemented over the last three weeks following rising banditry incidents in neighbouring states.
Adeleke noted that a series of high-level security meetings have been held to review intelligence reports and block possible entry routes, adding that security chiefs in the state have demonstrated “commendable alertness and professionalism.”
He lauded the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Army Commander, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for what he described as sustained collaboration to protect boundary communities.
According to the governor, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, the Chief of Defence Staff and the NSCDC Commandant-General have also shown “special supportive attention” to Osun in recent weeks.
“Security deployment is ongoing in strategic areas across the state. The intelligence community already has a deep overview of threats or otherwise in Osun,” Adeleke was quoted as saying.
He particularly commended the DSS for recent arrests of high-profile terror suspects and the dismantling of insurgent cells in parts of the state.
Urging residents to remain calm but vigilant, the governor appealed for timely reporting of suspicious movements and assured that local vigilantes, hunters and the Amotekun Corps are working closely with conventional security agencies to fortify communities.
On the lingering local government issue, Adeleke said the state is awaiting the verdict of the Supreme Court, insisting that all parties must remain law-abiding.
Speaking on the internal crisis within the judiciary, the governor expressed optimism that the institution would resolve its challenges without external interference, stressing that he would not meddle in judicial affairs.
He further highlighted ongoing improvements in workers’ welfare, infrastructure, digital economy and grassroots empowerment, saying his administration remains focused despite distractions.
“My appreciation goes to the people of Osun for their overwhelming support. Your prayers and encouragement strengthen our resolve to keep delivering democratic dividends,” he said.
