Adeleke Presents ₦705bn 2026 Budget, Prioritises Infrastructure and Social Welfare

Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday presented the 2026 budget of economic transformation to the Osun State House of Assembly, amounting to ₦705 billion, with 55% allocated to capital expenditure and 45% to recurrent spending.

Accompanied by top officials, the governor said the budget builds on the achievements of his administration since 2022, highlighting the successful implementation of the 2025 budget.

“The total revenue includes a government share of FAAC of ₦221.68 billion, independent revenue of ₦199.57 billion, and other receipts of ₦268.35 billion. Recurrent expenditure is ₦317.41 billion, split between personnel costs of ₦135.01 billion and overhead costs of ₦182.41 billion. Capital expenditure stands at ₦388.38 billion,” the governor said, noting that the budget aligns with the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework as mandated by the Osun State Fiscal Responsibility Law, 2012.

Governor Adeleke emphasised the administration’s focus on infrastructure, highlighting over 300km of roads across the state, flyover constructions, and ongoing projects, 75% of which have been completed. He assured that workers’ salaries and pensions will continue to be paid promptly.

On healthcare, the governor lauded Mrs Folorunso Alakija for handing over a Medical Research and Training Hospital to the state and noted improvements at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital. He also highlighted the Imole Youth Corps Scheme, which has engaged 10,000 youth across environmental, teaching, and medical sectors to tackle unemployment and youth restiveness.

Welcoming the governor, House Speaker Adewale Egbedun praised Adeleke’s prudence, transparency, and commitment to peace, particularly amid the local government administration disputes. He noted that despite challenges such as the withholding of local government allocations since March 2025, the administration has met its obligations and maintained development projects.

Speaker Egbedun assured that the House would scrutinise the budget carefully, ensuring allocations serve public interest and promote sustainable development across all sectors.
