Tight Security as Court Adjourns Hearing in PDP Convention Suit

There was heavy security presence on Monday at the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan as Justice Ladiran Akintola adjourned the hearing of a Motion on Notice in the suit filed by Folahan Malomo Adelabi against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its Acting National Chairman, and others.

The matter, earlier slated for hearing on Monday, November 10, 2025, was shifted to Wednesday, November 12, 2025, to enable all parties to file and exchange necessary court processes for proper commencement of proceedings.

Justice Akintola, at the resumed sitting, advised counsels representing both parties to ensure full compliance with the court’s directive in order to allow for a smooth and effective hearing.

The claimant, Adelabi, is seeking an order of the court restraining the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State (in his capacity as Chairman of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from taking actions that could truncate or frustrate the conduct of the party’s planned national convention.

It would be recalled that the court had, in an earlier ruling on the ex-parte motion, permitted the PDP to go ahead with its convention as scheduled, while directing the party leadership to adhere strictly to the guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities previously released for the event.

Meanwhile, journalistsm were barred from covering the court proceedings, as security operatives stationed at the entrance of the courtroom restricted access to accredited reporters.

Armed personnel from various security agencies were seen strategically positioned around the court premises to maintain order and prevent any form of disturbance during the session.
