Osun State political watchers have been thrown into a buzz as Bola Oyebamiji, a leading All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant, prepares to resign as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) ahead of the party’s December 13 primaries.

Sources close to Oyebamiji revealed that the Ikire-born politician is set to step down any moment from now to comply with the one-month resignation rule for public office holders seeking elective positions.

The APC primary will feature 13 aspirants vying to challenge the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

In line with the Electoral Act 2022, Section 84(12), all political appointees and public servants must resign from their positions before engaging in political campaigns. Oyebamiji’s resignation is therefore expected to pave the way for his formal campaign for the APC ticket.

Reports indicate that Oyebamiji enjoys the backing of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, as he seeks to wrest Osun back for the APC.

Political analysts say his resignation signals the seriousness of his ambition and sets the stage for a keenly contested primary in the state.
