Osun NNPP Fixes Dec 13 for Governorship Primary

Political activities are heightening in Osun State ahead of the 2026 governorship election, as the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has fixed December 13, 2025, for its primary election.

This was contained in a statement issued in Osogbo on Friday by the State Chairman of the NNPP, Mr. Tosin Odeyemi, who said the party had concluded all arrangements to ensure a credible and transparent exercise.

Odeyemi expressed optimism that the NNPP would not only participate but also make a strong impact in the coming election.

According to him, “The 2026 gubernatorial election will be a different ball game in Osun. Our party is now the new bride in the state, drawing supporters from the ongoing crises within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the internal divisions rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We already have not less than four aspirants, and more are still declaring interest in joining us. Feelers from across the state show that Osun people are ready to rally behind whoever emerges as our flagbearer after our December 13 primary.”

Odeyemi urged members to sustain their grassroots mobilisation and sensitisation efforts, noting that the NNPP’s programmes are designed to address the economic hardship facing Nigerians.

Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has slated December 12, 2025, for its governorship primary election.

It was further gathered that the Omoluabi Tendency within the ADC has zoned the governorship ticket to Osun West Senatorial District, with three prominent members already showing interest.

They include Hon. Najeem Salaam, Mr. Moshood Adeoti, and Senator Lere Oriolowo.

In the meantime, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has also fixed its governorship primary for December 13, the same day as the NNPP, while Governor Ademola Adeleke has been screened by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to re-contest in the 2026 election.

No fewer than 13 aspirants have expressed interest in the APC ticket, among them Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, Mr. Dotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, and Barrister Kunle Adegoke (SAN).

As the countdown to the August 8, 2026, governorship poll continues, Osun’s political space is fast tightening, with major parties finalising strategies and alliances in what many observers describe as a three-horse race.
