The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he will support United States President Donald Trump’s efforts to combat terrorism in Nigeria if the U.S. provides the country with the necessary technological support.
Wike stated this on Monday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme monitored by Patriotic Insights News.
His comments came in response to President Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged killings of Christians. Trump had also directed the U.S. Department of Defence to prepare for possible military action if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”
Reacting, Wike said that while insecurity remains a major challenge, Nigeria would welcome any genuine international assistance aimed at strengthening the fight against terrorism.
“It is not enough to focus on reports that people are dying in Plateau, Benue and other places,” Wike said. “I have said that I will support Trump in providing and supporting Nigeria with technology in the fight against terrorism. I will also support any country that genuinely seeks to help Nigeria tackle insecurity.”
The minister stressed that modern technology and intelligence sharing are vital to addressing the root causes of terrorism and improving national security.
