Wike Blames Adeleke for PDP Crisis in Osun

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said Governor Ademola Adeleke should be held responsible if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fails to field a candidate in the forthcoming Osun governorship election.

Wike stated this while speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Monday night.

He explained that he had earlier warned Governor Adeleke about the looming crisis in the Osun chapter of the PDP but that the governor failed to heed his advice.

“I warned Governor Adeleke about the danger he was walking into, but he didn’t listen,” Wike said. “Ask the dancing governor if I didn’t tell him the implication of his actions. Many governors think they can do magic because they are in office, but it’s not like that.”

The former Rivers State governor, who has openly supported President Bola Tinubu despite remaining in the PDP, said his contributions to the opposition party are unmatched.

“Let anybody who has contributed to the PDP more than me say so. I resigned as Minister to contest against the ruling party and I won. In 2019, the federal government came heavily against us, yet I still won. In 2023, I told the PDP I would support Tinubu, and we still won the governorship and assembly seats,” he said.

The PDP has been enmeshed in a leadership tussle in Osun, with two factions laying claim to the party structure. The crisis, according to party insiders, threatens the PDP’s ability to present a unified front ahead of upcoming elections in the state.
