The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into allegations of extortion leveled against some officers attached to the command.
The directive follows a viral video circulating on social media showing policemen allegedly extorting motorists along the Osi–Eruku highway in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara South Senatorial District.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, the Commissioner expressed concern over the incident and assured the public that no officer found guilty would go unpunished.
“The Command is aware of the video footage alleging that some police personnel on duty were involved in acts of extortion along Osi–Eruku road. The Commissioner of Police has directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter,” the statement read in part.
CP Ojo further reiterated the Command’s commitment to upholding professionalism, integrity, and accountability in all its operations.
He assured members of the public that the Kwara State Police Command under his leadership would not condone any act capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
